My new Olympic event... jumping

As a way for Luke to get out all the energy he seems to have at a young age, Grandy Damuth got him this "Jump and Go" when we went on our family vacation. He did not seem to like it back then and cried after only a few minutes. Now he has finally figured out how to use and and loves it. It gives me the chance to watch him have fun while I sit on the carpet and grade papers and complete other items on my teacher to do list. THANKS GRANDY!

baby steps for Luke

We had success finally with Luke the past Friday eating from a new type of bottle. While he only took 4 oz total it was a big step forward. Luke did not scream when the bottle came towards his mouth. He has also been sleeping a total of 5 hours at his daycare which makes a better nights sleep for all of us. We will hope for more improvement in the week ahead.

School Days

Today marks the day that I (mom) started back to work full time. After a few tears on my end, I left Luke behind with 4 other kids ages 8 months to 5 years old. Luke decided to be stubborn baby today and did not eat anything from 8 AM till 3:45. Of course, he made this up by eating constantly when I got back home. Hopefully he does not make this a new pattern. I am off to find more bottles that he will hopefully take.

6 month doctor visit

It is amazing to see how much Luke has grown in just 6 months. Here are his 6 month stats...

weight: 17 pounds 10 oz (75%)
length: 27 1/4 inches (75-90%)

He has been very fussy from his shots but I am hopeful he will feel better this morning since he will be spending time with his buddies at day care for a few hours today while I work at Heritage Elementary.

The Boy Speaks

Today Luke took an important step in his ongoing quest to successfully achieve, as his educator mother might say, viable primary language acquisition. It was a surprise, and likely accidental, but the fact remains that at approximately 7:49 PM, Luke pulled away from his mother, looked at me, his father, and said, quoth: "Da." It wasn't strictly speaking a word, but it certainly seemed like the pronounced syllable had meaning since it was followed by a toothless, somewhat droolly smile and a sustained look in my direction. It may have been because he associates me with play time and still had some energy that night. It may be that Luke, being born with advanced cognitive abilities, superior neuro-sensory skills, and a young intelligence best described as "phenominal," easily associated my appearance in the room with my name as far as his infant tongue could pronounce it. It may also be that after months of never sleeping well and yearning for the day when the boy can communicate something without a hearty wail, we projected our hopes too far at the end of a busy day and misheard standard baby babble. In any case, we'll be spending our days (and nights) listening attentively for signs of his next potential word or syllable. Further bulletins as events warrant...

Luke's new girlfriend...

Friday was a big day for Luke when he met Sloan Nelson, his new "girlfriend." Nick's friend Slade who he has know since first grade and his wife Courthey just moved back to Denver with their adorable girl Sloan. Luke enjoyed watching Sloan crawl around the grass in awe. She crawled away quickly to excape Luke's groping fingers (she was told of the Lani incident in Vail).

Our boys

On Tuesday Josie invited us down to her place for a yummy lunch. This was the first time that all 3 boys got together! In order of birth is Zane 13 months - Luke 6 months - Charlie 4 months. Katy had a fun time in the back seat on the ride down with both Luke and Charlie while Denise helped with the directions. Thanks for a very fun afternoon!
