Getting stronger

Don't you love my bed head?

After getting the report that Wes needed to work on his gross motor skills both Nick and I have been working with him putting him on his tummy more and helping him stand up. Then today at my friends house he rolled over 2 times from his stomach to his back. Whew... this made me feel so much better since I had been worried about him developing in this area. Here are a few pictures of Wes. A few other observations... Wes has the cutest laugh and is "talking" lots. When he does this, Luke "baby talks" back to him saying "goo goo gaa gaa" too cute. He also loves to watch his older brother run around the house and throw the football.  This makes me excited for the time when they can play more together.

Berry Patch Farms

What fun it is to live in Colorado! I drove up with the boys today to pick raspberries in Brighton. They were delicious! Luke ate more of them then he saved and kept saying raspberries are good!!! I agree. The weather was great and the mountains in the background were even more beautiful.

4 month doctor's appointment

Here is the low down...

weight: 15 pounds 2 oz  -  50-75%
Dr. Staerz said that he has had "explosive growth" in regards to his weight because he started out at the 10th percentile

length: 25 1/8th inches  -  50-75%

head: 42 1/4 cm  -  50%

Overall he is a healthy baby boy.  Wes is still a bit wobbly for his age so we are off to PT to learn some exercises to strengthen him.  I got approval to put him in his Johnny Jump-up and Exersaucer to get him stronger.  I think that Nick and I have not been putting him on his stomach as much as we should have been and this has not given Wes the opportunity to use his muscles.  I am excited and motivated to help him get stronger.  Will give an update on PT after we go.

As for food... she gave me the go ahead for water but to hold off on solids until he is stronger.  Since he has been refusing breastmilk out of a bottle she suggested I try using a Nuby sippy cup and see if he will take that.   I am keeping my fingers crossed...

He is interacting lots and observant of his surroundings.  He is also "blowing bubbles" which is too cute!    Luke remains a great older brother and gives Wes hugs and kisses.  I have yet to have a problem with him being too aggressive or hurtful towards his baby brother.

I just love being a mother to my two adorable boys.  :)

At the zoo

What an adventure it was on Monday at the zoo.  I arrived at 10:30 and got the double bob stroller out, put both boys in, diaper bag at the handle and lunch below only to realize that one of the wheels had a flat tire. I ran back the stroller and rented a Jeep wagon to push around the zoo.  Luke had a great time playing with Sloan and Bryce and feeding the birds.  Sloan even had a bird poop on her but she was not shaken by the experience.  Bryce just loved riding the train and smiled and laughed the entire time!  It is just great to hang out at the zoo with good friends.

Oktoberfest in Vail

This weekend we packed up our family of 4 and met up with two other families for a fantastic weekend up in Vail.  This meant that there were a total of 6 adults and 5 kids under 3 in the house.  What could have been a crazy weekend turned out to be a blast and we even got to play cards while all 5 kids slept!  YEA!


What was fun about this group of friends was that the guys are good friends from childhood and the wives are from out of state and we all get along so great.  A few Oktoberfest beers and brats plus 70 degree weather also made it a fantastic time.

The Holy Drenching: Second Addition

BEHOLD!  Our second trip to the baptismal font with the fruit of our loins was in many ways very similar, but in critical ways very different, than our first adventure with Luke.  As before, throngs and throngs of churchgoers arrived to witness the event (actually there were 5 other baptisms that day, likely a church record, plus an all-school sing and the community fair, but we like the attention).  As before, our young boy wore a 90+ year-old christening garment (actually a dress).  And as before, Scott and Courtney Raecker sponsored the baptism and were close at hand during the holy drenching.  However, unlike Luke, who slept peacefully through his soaking despite his penchant for wailing the whole night through, Wes, having slept well the night before, shrieked as loud as his little lungs would allow once the water touched his forehead.  He quieted briefly when Pastor Michael presented him to the congregation before realizing he was no where near his mother and letting loose another vigorous wail, much to the enjoyment of the assembled multitude.  The good news for the proud parents of the youngest wailer was that, once the waterworks ended, the blessed babe slept well that night, and however briefly, all was well with the world.

From Tank to Tap

Luke can't get enough of Thomas and so we headed up to Golden, CO for a "Day out with Thomas." Luke got to meet Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt as well as ride Thomas around the museum for 20 minutes.  His eyes were so wide the entire time and we will be back next year to ride Thomas again.  I have to say that we are a train family, even me!

We then headed up the road for a Coors brewery tour and some fresh beer sampling.  Luke learned about how beer was made and saw the bottles packed into boxes.  He will have to wait a mere 20 years to come back and sample the local brew.

Grandy and Grandad Damuth are here!  They arrived last night and we went to see the King Tut exhibit this morning.  It was amazing and I would highly recommend it for anyone in Denver.  Here we are before and after the exhibit.  We were not allowed to take pictures inside.

I was curious what I looked like at 3 months and so I looked in my baby book.  Here I am at 3 months and here is Wes at 3 months as well.

A bevy of babies at the zoo!

Today we spent close to 4 hours at the zoo walking around looking at all the new babies.  We first saw a giraffe, then sea lion, next a flamingo, baby penguins, an orangutan, and four finally baby tiger cubs.  We also got to see the elephant demonstration and were able to walk with the flamingos and of course, ride the train.  Wow, what a busy day and now both boys are napping (YEA) while I have energy to blog.  Wes has been a champion sleeper and wakes up at 4 AM or so each night.  This is wonderful compared to Luke who was up 3 times a night till 6 months and who we had to rock to sleep because he cried so much.  I am truly blessed to have the easier child second.  I don't know how I would manage with two and feel like a zombie.
